Fawzia Mirza is a director, writer, performer, and creator who believes in the power of comedy to tackle divisive topics & breakdown stereotypes. She was named a White House ‘Champion of Change’ in Asian American Art & Storytelling, a ‘Top 10 Creative’ (Indiewire), ’10 Filmmakers to Watch’ (Independent Magazine), an alum of Tribeca Film Institute’s All Access Program, a Canada Arts Council grantee, and one of the Chicago Dept. of Cultural Affairs inaugural ‘Esteemed Artist.’ Her first feature, SIGNATURE MOVE, which she co-wrote, produced and stars in, world premiered SXSW, screened 150+ film festivals globally, won 14 awards (Outfest Grand Jury Prize, Best US Narrative), available on Amazon/itunes. She wrote on the CBS series THE RED LINE, executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Ava DuVernay. She is an SFFILM Rainin Grantee, a White House Champion of Change in Asian American Art and Storytelling, a Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs ‘Esteemed Artist’, a 3Arts Acting Grantee, a Djerassi Writing Resident, a Tribeca Film Institute All Access alum, a Canada Council for the Arts Recipient, a ‘Yes, And Laughter Lab’ Winner, an Islamic Scholarship Fund Winner, a 2020 TIFF Writers’ Studio and TIFF Filmmaker Lab participant and a TIFF ‘Share Her Journey’ Fellow. She’s working on several TV & Film projects. She just shot the short film NOOR & LAYLA in association with CBC, produced by her wife Andria Wilson Mirza and their brand new Baby Daal Productions. She is one of five women writer/directors selected for Paul Feig’s Powderkeg Fuse 2 short film incubator program, set to go into production 2021. And is part of Starlight Media’s “‘Stars Collective.’
