Synopsis
The Franchise uncovers the tangled characters that make up the financial ecosystem behind the prison pipeline that connects the South Bronx to upstate New York and everywhere in-between.
Within this financial ecosystem we encounter coders behind start-up companies in Silicon Valley developing facial-recognition technology used in arrests, Wall Street investors betting on the prison construction boom, small towns in northern New York State that rely on the prison industry for jobs, and the men and women navigating through the economic labyrinth of bail bonds agents, defense lawyers, criminal courts and prison labor.
