Synopsis
One woman’s story of love, loss and redemption, as seen through her daughter’s eyes.
Based in the territorial west, this story is adapted from an award-winning period memoir/novel by Rose Spader.
Catherine Y. Fridey is an actor, producer, and award-winning screenwriter, who also has experience as a production designer and director of short films. She was born in Paris, France and raised outside Chicago, Illinois. Multicultural New Mexico is now her home base. She is a native French speaker and also speaks Spanish.
Overturned Bucket is a short film based on the novel of the same name about a northern New Mexico family. It is told from the viewpoint of the author Rose Spader, as we discover the line of strong women she descends from, especially her mother. As a woman filmmaker, I feel we need to tell more stories about women like Lenore, who struggled against many obstacles to make a better life for her family, in an area of the United States where life was often difficult. My visual influence for the story as a whole is The Milagro Beanfield War, also filmed in New Mexico. For the scenes that are told from a child’s point of view, I was inspired by Hugo and The Night of the Hunter.
