Micah Gaugh born in Colon, Panama is the progenitor of Puppet and represents most of his adult life that he has lived in the East Village, New York and the adventures therein through music and visual art. The music for Puppet, Micah’s ongoing band, was released as “Everything” on Matthew Herbert’s music label Accidental records. Micah Gaugh has collaborated with Lady Miss Kier from Dee-lite, Cecil Taylor, P-Funk Allstars, Bootsy Collins, Me’shell N’degeocello,Burnt Sugar, Yohimbe Brothers, Dj Logic, Brandon Ross, Melvin Gibbs, J’neiro Jarel, Anti-Pop Consortium,Airborne Audio, Blank Slates, M.F. Doom. Cx Kidtronic,, Billy Bang, David Murray, ‘Butch’ Morris, Alex Blake, La Frae Sci, Diego Cortez, Moreno Velloso, Laryn Hill, The Roots, Arto Lindsay band (2003-2008), Marc Ribot, James ‘Blood’ Ulmer, Melvin Gibbs, Vernon Reid and others in the studio and live performance. He has written two operas ‘Dr. Faustus Lights the Lights’ and a piece for the artist Rirkrit Taravanija featured in ‘il Postino di Tiempo’, music and actor for the Matthew Barney movie ‘Di Lama Lamina’ and a choral work entitled ‘Noise Mass’ commissioned by the Chiesa Rosa in Milan. James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) collaborates with Micah Gaugh on remixes for the Sounds, Ladytron, and The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.
Micah has also acted in the season five premier of ‘Sex in the City’ a play entitled ‘American Book of the Dead’ and is currently working with Melvin Van Peebles on a musical version of ‘Sweet Sweetbacks Badass Song.’ He paints and writes novels. His current musical achievement is ‘Highrise’, a ballet featuring Germaul Barnes (Alvin Ailey and Bill T. Jones), Tracy Jack (Classical Theatre of Harlem), and Laurie M. Taylor (Burnt Sugar freaks the James Brown Songbook). His current release is ‘The Blue Fairy Mermaid Princess’ on Africantape Records March 2013.
Micah Gaugh recently exhibited in Sept. 2011 at Philadelphia’s Crane Artspace for Dialogo 365 an art exhibit sponsored by the Venezuelan Consulate which had their catalogue admitted into the Library of Congress. During the summer of 2011 he taught at Lincoln Center’s Jazz in Schools program, represented the United States as a Culutural Ambassador to Suriname.
