Synopsis
A young girl races through her neighborhood in desperate search for the last ice cream truck carrying a priceless treat…the GRAB BAG!
Arturo Guzman was born and raised in San Diego, California. He moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue a career in Film/TV. His start as a PA in productions for Wim Wenders among other directors, inspired him to pursue directing his own short films.
He currently worked on Netflix’s “Teenage Bounty Hunters” and “Orange Is the New Black” as a Producer. His other credits include “Weeds”, “Dice”, and “United States of Tara” working in post production. Arturo has also directed a number of shorts in between shows. He produced/co-directed the independent feature “Spare Change” and the popular web series “Next Steps”, both currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
“El Paletero” was inspired by my own experiences growing up in the Barrio with my friends on hot summer days chasing after ice cream trucks. One of their prized treats was the grab bags they sold – filled with surprise items like baseball cards, Mexican candy, and gum.
I wanted to capture this but also have the heroine express a great kindness after the hardship in her search for a grab bag.
