Director Biography

Michael Jackson is a filmmaker and visual artist who grew up in Northern California. He made his first film right after college, a 50-minute documentary about the homeless that premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to a sold-out crowd. The next year, he co-organized and filmed the meeting between Muhammad Ali and the Dalai Lama. In 2013, Michael moved to New York City where he began working on his first narrative project called Harlemites.

Director Statement

My name is Michael Jackson and I grew up in Northern California. Three years ago, I moved to Harlem and conceived the idea for BRIAN MICKLER after both witnessing and contributing to the neighborhood’s gentrification. The title derives from the film Don Juan DeMarco where Brando plays a psychiatrist named Dr. Mickler who attempts to cure Johnny Depp’s character of a Lothario complex. Today, I’m happy to present BRIAN MICKLER to you after an arduous journey to bring the film to life.
