Director Statement

A recurrent theme in my work is personal relationships. Specifically the unresolved conflicts between family members. I found the relationship and roles that our characters in “Alma” take in this family are authentic and personal to me. I immediately connected to it.

With Paz, I’m looking to explore why many of us seek to differentiate ourselves from our ancestors, however, no matter how much independence is achieved, the affection remains, and the psychological and biological bonds remain unbreakable. And with Alma and Rocio, I look to dismantle, through emphasis on moments of confrontation and liminal transitions, the supposed roles within conventional family structures.

Despite having nostalgic and melancholic tones, I consider that my work is rather focused on a positive attitude and the search for harmony within the multiple worlds where it exists.
