LUNA is the story of one woman’s journey of self discovery. Like the phases of the moon, LUNA invokes processes of transformation and gravity. Magical and surreal, LUNA is pulled from a dark exorcism to a joyful understanding of the dual parts of her inner-most self, to the serenity and fullness of knowing her place in the universe.
Premstar Santana is a Latina award winning actor, an award winning filmmaker & the Creator of the Moonfaze Feminist Film Journal. She is also a photographer and a multidisciplinary artist. Most recently her film LUNA won Best Experimental Short Film at the Los Angeles Underground Film Forum. With over a decade of acting training & experience, and a background in dance & design, Premstar has created a unique body of work that speaks from the heart, and to the heart. Her goal as an artist is to be constantly creating and collaborating, bringing important stories to life in the most truthful and beautiful ways.
Premstar is her given name, but most people call her Prem, which means love in Hindi.
My goal as an actor and as a filmmaker is to expand myself in order to encompass and give life to characters that are normally unseen and unheard. I refuse to wait for permission to play the roles I want to play and make the films I want to make, and it brings me so much joy to be able to do so. For me, it is the stories that connect us and showcase our ability to prevail in our most darkest hours that can make real change in this world. The time for change is now and I am so proud to be a part of that change.
